Segment Protectors
Segment Protectors are fieldbus couplers for connection of instruments to the fieldbus segment. They provide short-circuit protection to the trunk line. This is important where hot work performed on a field instrument would cause the entire segment to fail through unintended short circuits to the spur line.

The R2 series of Segment Protector features innovative design for superior availability:
- Easy connection of multiple Segment Protectors via T-Connector
- Incorrect termination is prevented by design, since the terminator can be placed only on the T-Connector of the last Segment Protector
- Durable installation due to connectors with retaining screws
- Test points allow the connection of diagnostic tools such as the Mobile Advanced Diagnostic Module without disturbing the wiring
- High-availability termination
- Ex ic and Ex nL energy limitation

The Modular Segment Protector simply clips onto the DIN-Rail. Two modules, the trunk module and the expansion module, enable the following features:
- Smallest footprint in the cabinet per device
- Easy expandability on the DIN-Rail via Power Rail
- Ex nL energy limitation

The Segment Protector R-SP-E12 can supply power to Ex d field devices. The Segment Protector and the instrument can be installed in Zone 1.
